Ethanol is the raw solvent behind most spray perfume. It dissolves perfume oil and lets the blend atomise properly instead of spitting or sitting wet on the skin.
The reason to pick it over perfumer’s alcohol is cost. A litre of ethanol is a fraction of a litre of ready-blended base, which is what makes it the sensible line once you are mixing to sell rather than mixing for yourself.

- What does ethanol do in perfume?
- It is the solvent. It dissolves the perfume oil into a workable solution, carries it evenly across skin and clothing when sprayed, and evaporates quickly so the fragrance is what stays behind.
- Is ethanol cheaper than perfumer's alcohol?
- Yes, by volume. That is the trade: ethanol costs less per litre but you are working with the raw solvent, while perfumer's alcohol arrives blended and ready to use. The saving matters most once you are mixing in quantity.
- How should I store ethanol?
- Sealed, out of direct sunlight, away from heat and any naked flame, and in a ventilated space when you are working with it. Treat it as you would any flammable liquid.
- Do you sell ethanol in bulk?
- We stock up to 1 litre on the site. For larger volumes, send a bulk enquiry and we will quote you directly.
- Does ethanol make perfume last longer?
- No. The base carries the scent; it does not hold it in place. Longevity comes from the grade of oil you started with, the concentration, the fixative, and letting the blend mature.
