Make it last. Slows the fade so the scent holds.
A fixative slows how fast fragrance evaporates, so the scent is still there hours after you put it on. It is the difference between a blend that is gone by lunchtime and perfume oils that last long enough for someone to ask what you are wearing.
It is a lever, not a rescue. A fixative stretches a good oil; it will not turn a weak one into a strong perfume oil. Longevity starts with the grade you bought and the fixative extends it from there.
From ₦9,500 for 30ml up to 1 litre. Use it sparingly: too much flattens the top notes and makes the perfume feel heavy, so more is genuinely not better.
Fixatives — common questions
- What does a perfume fixative actually do?
- It slows the evaporation of the fragrance molecules, which stretches how long the scent stays on skin and on clothing. It is the most direct lever on wear time after the grade of oil itself.
- How much fixative should I use?
- Less than most people expect. Too much dulls the top notes and makes the blend feel syrupy. The tested proportions for each style of perfume are in the Complete Perfume Mastery Blueprint.
- Will a fixative fix a weak perfume oil?
- No. If the oil is weak, a fixative makes a weak scent last slightly longer; it does not make it strong. Buy the grade that matches the longevity you want, then use fixative to extend it.
- Can I use fixative in an oil based perfume?
- Yes. Fixatives work in both alcohol sprays and alcohol-free blends made with DPG.
